Study Time and Credits

Study time
The total study time for a particular course unit equals the number of so-called contact hours plus the time required for individual work or study.

Contact hours
'Contact hours' refers to the number of hours awarded for actual teaching. This can include theory classes (lectures), exercises, and learning experiences. Project work is also taken into account, as long as there is in fact contact between the student and the teacher.

Credits
For an idea of the total study time required to assimilate the materials, a weight is allocated to each course unit in the form of a number of credits. One credit represents on average 25 to 30 hours of study time. A standard track program for a full year of study totals a minimum of 1500 and a maximum of 1800 study time. This corresponds to 60 credits.
