On placement with Puratos in Guangzhou

A first
Each year Group T welcomes many Chinese students, but only a few Belgian students go study or work in China. The university college encourages this mutual exchange of students, and has the specific intention of sending many more Belgian students abroad in the near future. This is where Karolien Hoebreckx and Andries Clijster—among some others—were the pioneers: they were placed with Puratos in Guangzhou.

Own initiative
The idea of working in China grew in their final bachelor year, while traveling there during the China Project. With the help of Prof. Guido Vercammen and the International Office—who provided them with a list of Belgian companies in China—they contacted the Belgian Guangzhou-based company Puratos and heard opportunity knocking … Shortly thereafter they were on a plane for China, for the adventure of a lifetime. And although they had to work hard, they immersed themselves completely in the Chinese culture for three exciting months.
