YES TO JAZZ!

Double bass player Janos Bruneel and pianoforte player Bart Van Caenegem introduce their program Yes to Jazz! They combine music from a distant past with current jazz.

Janos Bruneel studied at the Brussels and the The Hague colleges of music, where he is now also teaching. He recently won the Sabam Jazz Award for Young Talent. AMUZ Antwerp asked him to devise a jazz concert together with artists of his choosing. Bart Van Caenegem is one of them. Yes to Jazz! applies today's improvisation techniques to 15th century polyphone compositions by Guillaume Du Fay.

Opening photo exhibit 'UNESCO World Heritage in the Picture'

The Chinese photographer Zhou Jiansheng is exhibiting a selection of pictures from his series on UNESCO World Heritage sites in the atrium. Wang Luxin, Counselor of the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy to Belgium opens the exhibit. (The exhibition will run till October 6, 2010.)

Zhou Jiangsheng, born 1950, works for the PPS news agency and the World Culture Photo Service. For his UNESCO-project, he visited 77 countries spread over 5 continents in 8 years. According to the photographer: "The World Heritage sites reflect the splendid history of mankind; they show the traces left by our ancestors, who explored and created human civilization."

The exhibition came about in cooperation with the Confucius Institute at Group T.
