Day of the Engineer

Green engineering was the theme of the Day of the Engineer's third edition. Green projects received special attention. USG Innotiv, the company behind the event, called for projects that could make a real difference.

EMS Project

Toon Heirman, Tom Hennes, Frederik Konings, and Jonas Vlasselaer developed an energy management system (EMS) for a residential block. They named it the Green Smart Home Project. Their supervisors were Luc Vandeurzen, Wouter Vermeiren, and Vero Vanden Abeele.

The EMS gathers information on the available facilities and the residents' behavior via a network of sensors. That information is used to make intelligent decisions that optimize the energy consumption without loss of comfort.

Most Innovative Project

The four Electronics Engineering students presented their EMS during the evening program of the Day of the Engineer. A total of nine projects were presented, 3 of which by Group T-students. The jury elected the EMS to be the most innovative one.
