The Barco/bachelor awards for technological practical research in the electronic engineering domain and the Barco awards for scientific research (in cooperation with the Flemish chamber of engineers ('VIK') and the fund for scientifcic research ('FWO') were awarded December 11, 2007.

Group T-student Pieter Mollemans, Master in Electronic Engineering, won the Barco/'VIK' award for his company project on facial modelling for maxillofacial surgery. Under the supervision of Stef Desmet, Pieter developed a software application which allows both surgeons and patients to obtain a fairly realistic idea of a medical treatment of the face.

The annual awards for graduation projects, of which nine are worth 2,500 euros and one 5,000, do not   just aim to stimulate young researchers. They also stress the importance of the collaboration between universities, university colleges, and scientific institutes on the one, and businesses on the other hand.
