Project Emergence aims to introduce high-school students to some of the principles that underlie game design. To meet this goal, the project employs a constructionist, game-based learning process instead of a more traditional theoretical approach. The students will learn to apply concepts such as the “magic circle”, “meaningful play”, “immersion”, “motivational rewards” and finally “emergence” by developing their game.
A website on the Emergence Project will follow soon.
Project sBox introduces a soft approach to programming and especially game development, as Inclusive Design principles and the Unified Process provided a framework for the development of a computer game aimed at an older audience. This approach resulted into a multitude of game concepts, of which one concept was chosen to be developed: 'Petanque', a multiplayer jeux de boule game.
